The Media RSL course in Creative Digital Media is designed to prepare learners for their entry into the media sector and arm them with the knowledge and skills to successfully navigate this exciting and ever-evolving industry.
Learners will be introduced to key media concepts including media types, processes, institutions, genre, representation and audiences before completing two production units against a design brief for a media ‘client’.
In the unit ‘Creating and publishing digital content’ unit the learners will be able to: Use a range of current content creation tools to create and publish digital content to fulfil a specific purpose.
In the unit ‘Creating a social media campaign’ unit the learners will be able to: Create a social media campaign to promote an identified product, service or event to a specified audience.

Media RSL is assessed across two internally assess units against the RSL assessment criteria:
Unit CDM 203: Creating and publishing digital content:
o 1.1 Explain current concepts, tools and formats used in creating and publishing effective digital content for a range of destinations.
1.2 Create a portfolio of digital content in response to a specific brief.
1.3 Publish the content in an appropriate format to reach the intended audience.
1.4 Assess the effectiveness of the content in terms of its relevance to the brief and the response to it from the intended audience, identifying strengths and areas requiring further development.
Unit CDM 220: Creating a social media campaign:
1.1 Describe current key concepts, tools and processes relevant to creating and reviewing the effectiveness of social media campaigns
1.2 Assess the suitability of a range of tools and processes within existing campaigns to promote products and services to a range of different audiences
1.3 Based on the learning in 1.1 & 1.2, create a social media campaign for an identified product, service or event, for a specified audience
1.4 Use an internal analytics tool to assess the effectiveness of the campaign in reaching and engaging the intended audience.

By the end of Key Stage 4, learning will have gained understanding in how to create media items against a brief and have experience and knowledge of how the media sector runs and employment options in the sector.
Learners who achieve at Level 2 across their Key Stage 4 learning might consider progression to:
• Progress to a Level 3 course in a creative media subject.
• Progress to an apprenticeship in the media sector.

This Media RSL course is a Level 3 Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media (equivalent to one A-Level) is designed to prepare learners for employment and further learning the media sector and arm them with the knowledge and skills to successfully navigate this exciting and ever-evolving industry.
Learners will develop their understanding and analysis of key media concepts including media types, processes, institutions, genre, representation and audiences before completing 6 production units against a design brief for a media ‘client’.
Across the 6 units learners will be able to:
In the unit CDM 355 - Pre-production in creative digital media, the learners will be able to: Undertake effective pre-production on a digital media project.
In the unit CDM 334 - Creating a digital image portfolio, the learners will be able to: Apply knowledge and understanding of digital photography and its uses across the digital media sector to create a digital image portfolio for a specified digital media destination.
In the unit CDM 301 - Producing a digital media product or service, learners will be able to: Plan for and undertake the production of a digital media product or service in response to a brief.
In the unit CDM 328 - Marketing a digital media product or service, learners will be able to: Apply knowledge and understanding of the role of marketing and marketing processes across the digital media industry.
In the unit CDM 337 - Starting an online business, learners will be able to: Plan and set up an online business.
In the unit CDM 339 - Writing for creative digital media, learners will be able to: Apply knowledge and understanding of writing for a range of digital media audiences and destinations to the creation of copy for specified creative digital media destinations.

CDM 355 - Pre-production in creative digital media
1.1 Explain the elements of pre-production relative to a defined digital media product.
1.2 Plan for and execute pre-production on the digital media product identified in 1.1.
1.3 Document the pre-production process using recognised conventions.
1.4 Evaluate the success of the pre-production process, identifying strengths and areas for further development.
CDM 334 - Creating a digital image portfolio
1.1 Analyse key concepts, tools and processes in digital image capture and post production across a range of digital media products and destinations
1.2 Develop and present a digital image portfolio, relevant to a defined digital media destination in an appropriate format
1.3 Evaluate strengths and areas for development in relation to the success of the portfolio and to personal development
CDM 301 - Producing a digital media product or service
1.1 Generate ideas to develop design concepts for a product or service idea in response to a brief and gain approval to take one of the design concepts forward into production
1.2 Create a production plan for the design concept identified in 1.1, to include:
Product vision (including an understanding of an associated business plan)
Planned outputs
Materials requirements and procurement
Resources requirements and procurement
Build schedule
Testing procedures and methodologies
Timescales for completion and sign off NB Approval should be gained for the plan before proceeding to the next stage.
1.3 Implement the production plan to create the finished product/service identified in 1.2, efficiently and to time
1.4 Evaluate the success of the production process and the product itself, identifying strengths and areas for further development
CDM 328 - Marketing a digital media product or service
1.1 Analyse the current key concepts, tools and processes involved in taking a digital media product to market and how these vary depending on audience and destination
1.2 Develop a plan to take a defined digital media product from its inception to the marketplace, using a market analysis on the product to underpin the creation of the plan
1.3 Evaluate strengths and areas for development in relation to the success of the plan and to personal development
CDM 337 - Starting an online business
1.1 Understand the main types of online business and the conventions, processes and regulations surrounding starting up and running an online business
1.2 Research, reflect on and refine ideas for an online business and select one idea suitable for further development
1.3 Create a business plan for the business idea identified in 1.2
1.4 Implement the plan to the point where all the necessary elements to go live are in place.
CDM 339 - Writing for creative digital media
1.1 Analyse key concepts in writing for a range of digital media destinations and their audiences
1.2 Develop and present copy for defined digital media audiences and destinations
1.3 Evaluate strengths and areas for development in relation to the success of the copy and to personal development as a writer

By the end of Key Stage 5, learners will have a solid understanding in how to create media items against a brief over a range of mediums, they will be able to explain and analyse media items and their own processes, as well as having experience and knowledge of how industry standard processes run.
Learners who achieve at Level 3 across their Key Stage 5 learning might consider progression to:
• An undergraduate degree in the media, marketing or business sectors.
• An apprenticeship in the media sector.
